A visit to the doctor
Role-play by Playgroup Class - A visit to the doctor. Six children ages 2 ½ to 3 ½ years old were having fun taking turns to be patients and doctors in their classroom during their role-play lesson. The purpose of this activity is to practice simple conversation in English when visiting a doctor. Simple vocabulary was used for this activity.
A toy doctor set was used for this activity which comprises of a battery operated stethoscope, glasses, forceps, bandages, thermometer, syringe, scissors, and medicines.
The class furniture was rearranged to create the environment of a doctor’s room. There is also a registration desk and a waiting area for patients to register their name and to wait for their turn.
With the help and guidance by the class teacher the activity was fun and motivating. Everyone is given a turn to act their part and also a chance to express themselves.
The outcome of the activity was very humorous and lots of fun. Children learn new words and enjoyed singing the song.
The role-play ended with a song: Miss Polly’s Dolly.
Miss Polly had a dolly who was sick, sick, sick. (cradle arms and look sad)
So she phoned for the doctor to come quick, quick, quick. (put one baby finger to the mouth and thumb to the ear and clap hands three times to the “quick, quick, quick”)
The doctor came with his bag and his hat. (pretend to carry a bag and point to head)
And he knocked at the door with a rat-a-tat-tat. (pretend to knock three times)
He looked at the dolly and he shook his head. (shake head)
And he said, “Miss Polly, put her straight to bed.” (shake finger)
He wrote on a paper for some pills, pills, pills. (hold left hand out flat, pretend to write with right hand)
I’ll be back in the morning if the dolly’s still ill. |
