I wanted to learn and understand the cultural and educational differences that was practiced in other countries other than Denmark. I chose Beaconhouse which has high teaching standards and a very different learning environment for my 6 months teaching assignment.
I immediately realised that the expectations of parents in Malaysia are higher than that in Denmark. Here many parents emphasize on academic achievements whereas in Denmark parents also concentrate on a more balanced approach to learning so a child grows socially and emotionally as well. I am glad that Beaconhouse also focuses on those aspects of a child’s development.
I also found that most children here are very sweet and caring. For instance if a child were to drop their pencils in class, another child would come over and help them pick it up. They would also greet the teachers in the corridor when they see us. I think cultivating these values in school is very important.
I’m glad I had this opportunity to be part of the Beaconhouse team and learn from so many good people. I thank the school for all their efforts in accommodating me and accepting me here. Till we meet again.
