COOKING COOKIES! |
|
| |
|
|
| |
The Beaconhouse Bangsar pre-nursery students wanted to learn to cook their favourite meals. So, on July 2nd, they became Cookie Bakers in the bake shop, making their very own "Butter Cookies".
The children had to identify the ingredients to make butter cookies, to develop skills through given instructions by the teacher, and to have a role-play experience as a cookie baker.
But of course, before they made the cookies, the children made bakers hats and wore aprons for hygiene.
And they learned to use butter cookie mix, butter, eggs, rainbow stars, and sugar beads to make the cookies. They took turns to put ingredients inside the bowl and stir the mixture together. Last, the children decorated the cookies with rainbow stars and sugar beads. The cookies were baked in the oven until golden brown.
At the end, all the cookies were gobbled up, as they should be. |

PULLING STRINGS |

The Subang Jaya Bubbles class had a teacher with an idea. She wanted something different, so, instead of telling a story for the story-telling class, she decided to stage one ... with puppets. The teacher had made the puppets herself, and with the strings she manipulated not only the paper figures, but also the flesh and blood lads and lasses in the class!

Roll over I am the new pop star
Sixteen children, all 5 years old, moved this June to the song "Roll Over" at the Beaconhouse Pre-school Subang Jaya. The objectives of this activity, a lesson taught by Musik Garten, were to learn to express the words to the songs and to project their voices; to develop listening skills as well as the ability to follow instructions; to develop a sense of rhythm and musicality; and to improve coordination and muscle control.
Everyone participated; how could they not rock and roll to the following lyrics?
Roll Over
There were seven in the bed and the little one said, "Roll over! Roll over!"
So they all rolled over and one fell out... Boom!
There were six in the bed and the little one said, "Roll over! Roll over!"
So they all rolled over and one fell out... Boom!
There were five in the bed and the little one said, "Roll over! Roll over!"
So they all rolled over and one fell out... Boom!
There were four in the bed and the little one said, "Roll over! Roll over!"
So they all rolled over and one fell out... Boom!
There were three in the bed and the little one said, "Roll over! Roll over!"
So they all rolled over and one fell out... Boom!
There were two in the bed and the little one said, "Roll over! Roll over!"
So they all rolled over and one fell out... Boom!
There was one in the bed and he said I have the whole bed to myself.

FUN AND FUNDRAISING |

The BSS Pre-school Carnival 2008 was held on May 24 on the campus of the Beaconhouse Sri Inai Campus.
Parents and children raided the foodstalls and enjoyed games set up at the game booths. And at the end, some carted away prizes awarded by the festival organizers.
All this fun was also fundraising for the Cheshire Home - a home for the handicapped. And the children learnt the meaning of Beaconhouse's slogan for the day: Beaconhouse Cares.

A WHOLE NEW WORLD |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Sixteen students, all six years old, participated in the World of Knowledge exercise at the Klang branch campus on May 7. The exercise introduced children to the world of adults, and each child learned about different occupations.
The children talked about occupations they knew, the teacher explained to them new occupations they had not heard of, and then – in a fun exercise – the children lined up to listen to their teacher describe an occupation without naming it.
After each description, the children tried to guess the occupation by sticking photographs to the board, racing in teams against each other, and trying to pick the teacher’s brain!

BUBBLING IN GASING |
|
| |
|
|

The Gasing 3 year olds came to school prepared to learn how to wash clothes; the theme was My Family. The children had earlier talked about what their mums did at home, and so they brought clothes from home to wash them at school and later dry them on the fence.
However, the water was too inviting, and after washing clothes, some of the children took a dip in the water themselves. |

One of the Beaconhouse Bangsar parents volunteered to bring animals to campus for April’s World of Knowledge theme: Animals. So, on April 30, the students were able to – keeping safety in mind – touch or get close to roosters, a rabbit, a cat with its kittens, a turtle, tarantula spiders, and the three snakes: a Burmese Python, a Ball Python and a Green Tree Python. |
